On 17th June, 2013, one of the worst natural disasters hit the state of Uttarakhand. Described by some as the Himalayan Tsunami, torrential rains resulted in flooding and landslides in Uttarakhand. The five districts of Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Tehri Garhwal are the worst affected.More than 1,50,000 people have been reported displaced including 65,000 children. The death toll reported has already crossed the 1000 mark. Victims of this massive flood have lost their valuables, food, clothes and in several cases, even their homes. 1100 roads and 94 bridges have been destroyed which are significantly hindering relief efforts. While Government agencies including NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) continue their large scale relief and rescue operations, survivors have little or no access to food, water, shelter and care. Since the past one week, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) has been continuously interacting with NGOs who have initiated work to provide relief to the victims at select locations. With the inspiration and blessings of Param Krupalu Dev Shrimad Rajchandraji and Pujyashri Gurudev, embodiments of divine compassion, SRLC is providing relief by sending food, medication, blankets, utensils and other utilities. Rehabilitation in this region will be very challenging and time consuming, due to the difficult mountainous terrain and enormity of the destruction. While the government and relief agencies are doing their best, it will require a huge amount of support and resources to help the affected communities rebuild their lives. A team of SRLC sevaks will also be visiting the affected region to offer support. On the occasion of World Compassion Day, SRLC requests your help to rebuild the lives in Uttarakhand and bring a smile to many who have been providential to live through this disaster.
