Across the ocean, Shrimad Rajchandra Ashram, USA marked the occasion with a revitalising yoga flow, bringing the community together in joyful anticipation of Pujya Gurudevshri’s forthcoming visit to the Ashram in September.

Ladakh: Festival of Yoga and Meditation
SRMD Yoga was honoured by an invitation from Pujya Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder-President of the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) to participate in Ladakh’s largest festival of yoga and meditation, supported by the Ministry of Ayush.

Amidst the tranquil Himalayan backdrop, mass yoga and meditation sessions unfolded across the region – by the placid Pangong Lake, within the University of Ladakh, on the sacred grounds of Diskit Monastery at Nubra Valley and atop the lofty Khardung La Pass; embodying the essence of this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’. The festival culminated on 21st June with a spirited gathering at Leh Astro Turf Stadium, where thousands united in celebration of the International Day of Yoga.

Atmarpit Dr Mansiji, along with other SRMD Yoga trainers, represented the Mission at the festival, conducting sessions throughout the week. She also delivered an address at a seminar on the influence of yoga and meditation in nurturing emotional resilience and mental well-being. During the concluding ceremony, where revered saints and dignitaries shared heartfelt messages with an enthralled audience, Atmarpit Dr Mansiji extended closing thoughts on behalf of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur. The team deepened affectionate ties through informal moments with Pujya Bhikkhu Sanghasena and interacted warmly with distinguished guests including Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Law and Justice, Government of India; Smt Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.)and former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and numerous faith leaders.

Pujya Gurudevshri was also bestowed with the Himalayan Yoga Award for World Peace by Pujya Bhikkhu Sanghasena.

“Pujya Gurudevshri is a saint whose compassion flows through both inner awakening and outer service. During my recent visit to Dharampur, I saw firsthand the depth with which He serves — from the multi-speciality hospital to the upcoming world-class animal hospital, every detail reflects profound care for all beings. And yet, His humility is what moves me most. It was a joy to have SRMD Yoga at our recent International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2025 — their presence brought sincerity, depth, and grace to every session.” — Pujya Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder-President, MIMC (Ladakh)

The festival – extensively covered by leading media entities such as Reach Ladakh, The Earth News, and Doordarshan – witnessed participation from a vibrant cross-section of the society, including Indian Army personnel, university faculty, students, rural residents, and medical professionals.

Religion and Sectarianism

Religion and Sectarianism

Pujya Gurudevshri defines religion as a way of life that helps realise the Self and differentiates it from sectarianism which is an excessive attachment to the outer form of religion.

Religion is a personal matter, not a social event. Temples, ashrams and places of pilgrimage are all outside you; they are a part of the outer world. Just visiting them does not ensure that you will realise the Self. They indicate towards turning within and are therefore helpful in remembering the Self. However, religion is very intimate. It is something that happens within you.

A congregation is not religion. By being a member of a religious organisation or practicing and participating in its religious activities does not make one religious. Sometimes, being a member of a religious organisation may even become an obstacle to religiousness. Because organisation is a sect and in the name of religion, sectarianism is often seen in sects. Only when you step out of sectarianism, you can tune-in to religion.

Sectarianism

Sect is an outer expression of religion. But as long as there is insistence of specific teaching, dress, practice or person, sectarianism will prevail. And as long as sectarianism prevails, attachment, ego, animosity, and hostility will exist. What cannot connect a man with another man, how can it help connect to God?

Sectarianism isn’t being religious because sectarianism is related to society. Religion is not any association; it is your existence, your truth. Your religion therefore is to manifest your true nature and abide in it. The Self being personal, religion is also personal.

Even though religion is personal, the society benefits from it too. The illumination of religious experience influences the masses. When an individual gets filled with divine radiance, His conduct also reflects the illumination and emanates divine fragrance. The inner is intimate and the outer is social.

Religion is a flight of the alone to the alone. The bliss attained as a result of this flight benefits others too. Religion is attained in solitude but it spreads far and wide.

Religion is One

Religion can be only one. Religion means nature of the Self. How can there be difference in the nature of the Self? If science is one, religion also has to be one.

Why is science one? Because the nature of matter is one and science deals with the nature of matter. When you heat water, whether you are a Hindu or a Muslim, steam will emerge at 100 degrees. Whether in India or in America, water will not change its nature. If the nature of matter remains the same, how can the nature of the Self vary? Therefore, religion is also one.

Groups Around an Enlightened One

When an Enlightened One emerges, two groups are formed. One that opposes and the other that has bigoted attachment. Very few become true devotees or followers. The opposer group focuses on the lamp, the person, and not on the flame, the illumined Self. They see the Enlightened One and His prescribed religious practices as different from those in the past and begin criticising, opposing and disrespecting. At times, they even create discomforting circumstances and give difficulties to the Enlightened One.

Like the opposers, those who have bigoted attachment to the Enlightened One also fail to benefit. They too focus on the lamp, and not on the flame. The difference is they are attached to the lamp and insist for that lamp alone. They cannot believe that there can be light in any other lamp. With such bias, they cannot accept other Enlightened Ones. They insist that liberation can be attained only by following the methods shown by their Enlightened One.

Moreover, they believe that this is supreme devotion. They insist that their children also follow the same Guru, and religious methods. It is forced upon, without giving room for thinking, understanding and heartfelt acceptance.

A father meets an Enlightened One and benefits from His presence, he expects that the son should also follow the same and experience peace and happiness the way he has experienced. The father, with all good intention, wishes to give the best to the son but if the son accepts it out of ignorance, fear, or force, and passes on to the next generation, it gives rise to sectarianism. The first generation had some glimpse of that truth, the second one though had no direct glimpse of the truth but at least was associated with those who had it. The third generation received only opinion.

Sect is Inevitable

When religion descends in some heart, when the light of religion is lit in someone, when an Enlightened One emerges, it is natural that His fragrance, His music, His light spreads around. The nature of bliss is to flow. When the flower gets filled with fragrance, the fragrance spreads. When the clouds get filled with water they begin to shower. So when His bliss, love, compassion flows out as teachings, the masses get pulled towards Him. As the numbers increase, disciplines and rules are created based on the type of group, their liking, their capacity, etc. They join together and follow specific religious practices collectively. To ease the connection with the Self, the external form of religion begins to take shape and an organisation is formed.

Thus, formation of a sect around an Enlightened One is inevitable. And there is nothing wrong in it. It is surely beneficial if one is coming nearer to the Self. But when the focus on the Self is lost and there is bigoted attachment to the Master, teachings or opinions, sectarianism is born.

Religiousness is the cause for liberation and sectarianism is the cause for bondage. Sectarianism creates jail. It only binds. Whether you are Hindu, Muslim, Jain, or Buddhist, if there is sectarianism, you are bound. Sectarianism stops the spiritual growth.

Without religion, sect loses its importance. A body without a beating heart, even though it is beautiful, is a dead body and starts stinking. A sect without religion will start stinking of attachment, aversion, ego, hostility etc. Quarrels, fights, wars take place in the name of religion. It is sectarianism, not religion, that is responsible for this.

Coming Close to Religion

For a flame, lamp is necessary. However, the light is from the flame, not the lamp.

Where there is lamp but no flame, there is darkness. Stuck in sectarianism, people remain deprived of religion. As long as your practices are limited to worship, reading, etc., you are under the influence of a sect. As you dive deeper into meditation and come closer to the nature of the Self, the influence of the sect reduces. Sect cannot influence where witnessing of thoughts is practiced. When you become witness of the thoughts, the insistences and sectarian opinions disappear. Closer you are to the Self, farther you go away from sectarianism. To progress on the path of liberation, you must drop your sectarian outlook.

What the Enlightened One knows is experienced by Him in silence. But when He shares with others, it comes in words. When the Enlightened One speaks He has the connection with the silence within and hence His words have a transformative impact. Words are lifeless. Life is in connecting with the silence within. Taking help of the words, reach the silence. But if you just hold on to the words and have insistence, you will become sectarian. Taking help of the enlightened One and His teachings, manifest religion within and become religious in the true sense.

Compassion in Action

Compassion in Action

By the boundless compassion of Param Krupalu Dev and Pujya Gurudevshri, over 475 animals were rescued from slaughter in Rajkot and Pune and provided with a new lease of life. Through the collective efforts of volunteers of Rajkot, rescued animals were safely sent to an animal shelter home in Chibhda. Animals rescued en route to slaughterhouses near Pune were sheltered safely with the invaluable support of Shree Jivdaya Mandal Charitable Trust, Sangamner. Putting compassion into action by giving them shelter and healing, the Animal Care initiative of Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care is proving that mercy multiplies in every heart it touches.

Monsoon Relief for the Poor and Homeless

Monsoon Relief for the Poor and Homeless

Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care’s Humanitarian Care programme has been on the forefront in providing relief to marginalised communities across the globe. As a part of this noble intent, it strives to provide essential monsoon relief material to the less-privileged. This monsoon, volunteers distributed talpatris (plastic tarpaulins), benefiting close to 1,000 individuals across Dharampur and the interior villages of Kalyan, Panvel, Navi Mumbai, and Palghar in Maharashtra, including a rural school.

Talpatris are essential during monsoons as they act as makeshift roofs or ground sheets, shielding homes and belongings from rainwater, especially in underserved and flood-prone areas. This timely initiative aims to offer basic shelter and preserve dignity amidst harsh weather. Through this distribution drive, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care reinforced its commitment to serving vulnerable communities to help them overcome the vagaries of nature.

The Art of Focusing: Understanding True Spirituality

The Art of Focusing: Understanding True Spirituality

What is the Meaning of Spirituality?

In a world full of perspectives and viewpoints, profound truths about spirituality are revealed. It is emphasised that spiritual people are those who know the art of focusing. True spiritual health isn’t about changing things around you, but mastering where and why you focus your attention.

Spirituality is not merely about rituals or traditions; it’s about consciously choosing your mental state before engaging with the world. As beautifully explained, a seeker is one who chooses what to see. This choice determines whether we experience joy or conflict, peace or agitation.

The Power of Perspective

Our perspective shapes our entire experience of life. Consider this powerful insight from the satsang: perspective must be decided first, then the scene can unfold. Most people do the opposite – they let external circumstances dictate their internal state.

This is illustrated with a story of a couple who felt their house was too small. When they invited parents from both sides, adopted a puppy, and even brought in a cow, the house felt extremely cramped. But once everyone left, the same house suddenly felt spacious! Nothing changed except their perspective.

The teaching emphasises that one doesn’t need to change the village, but rather change the direction of the cart. Happiness requires minimal effort when we simply adjust our viewpoint rather than trying to change everything around us.

Dharma as the Art of Focusing

What is dharma in its essence? According to this satsang, dharma is about choosing where to direct our attention. Everyone we meet will have both flaws and virtues – this is inevitable. If you focus on the flaws, you will be disturbed. If you focus on the virtues, then you will feel maitri and pramod – friendliness and appreciation.

True dharma isn’t just about following rules or traditions, but cultivating a mind that naturally gravitates towards virtues rather than flaws, towards appreciation rather than criticism. Samyak darshan or right belief means the art of focusing, which is distinguished from Samyak jnan or right knowledge, which is knowing everything as it is.

Choosing Happiness First

One of the most practical spiritual teachings from this satsang is to make a decision about your desired mental state before anything else. The teaching urges us to first decide whether we want to spend the next five minutes in agitation, conflict, amid a flurry of thoughts, or in a joyous, pristine, happy, peaceful, and pure state.

This teaching is illustrated through the story of Saint Tukaram, who gave away cartfuls of sugarcane to children, keeping only one for home. When his wife hit him in anger, instead of responding with hurt, he maintained his joyful perspective, even complimenting her for sharing the sugarcane with him out of love.

For a deeper experience of this transformative wisdom on what dharma truly means and how to maintain spiritual health, watch the complete satsang here:

Transforming Challenges Through Perspective

Another powerful story is shared of a Guru and disciple who had hot ash thrown on them. Whilst the disciple reacted with anger, the Guru remained peaceful, explaining that this was the grace of God. He reflected that their inauspicious karma was such that flames should be spewed at them, but instead, through God’s compassion, only hot ash fell upon them.

This illustrates how even challenging situations can be transformed through our perspective. An agitation-causing incident can be made enjoyable through our perspective.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the meaning of spirituality?

Spirituality is the art of focusing. It’s not about changing external circumstances but mastering where you direct your attention. A spiritual person consciously chooses their mental state before perceiving the world and focuses on virtues rather than flaws in people and situations.

How does dharma relate to our perspective?

Dharma, in its essence, is about choosing a perspective that promotes inner peace and joy. What is dharma if not the conscious choice to see virtues instead of flaws? True dharma helps us maintain maitri (friendliness) and pramod (appreciation) towards all beings by focusing on the positive aspects of every situation.

What is spiritual health and how can we maintain it?

Spiritual health is the ability to remain in a state of joy, peace, and purity regardless of external circumstances. The teaching shows that we maintain spiritual health by first deciding what mental state we want to be in, then directing our focus accordingly. The emphasis is on the importance of not affording even five minutes of impure feelings, highlighting the importance of consistent positive focus.

Why is perspective more important than circumstances?

As explained, what matters is not what you are seeing, but why you see only that particular aspect. Our perspective determines whether identical circumstances bring us joy or misery. The viewpoints of the enthusiastic and the unenthusiastic are completely different. When we choose to focus on virtues and maintain positive feelings first, we create our own heaven or hell regardless of external conditions.
