Ragi Momo with Red Sauce

Ingredients

For Momo
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1 cup finger millet flour (ragi)
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • salt as per taste
  • water for steaming the momo

For Filling:
  • 1 cup finely chopped vegetables (french beans, cabbage, bell peppers)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • soya sauce as per taste
  • salt as per taste
  • black pepper as per taste

For Red Sauce
  • 2 ripe tomatoes cut lengthwise
  • dry red chillies or kashmiri chillies as per taste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar or as needed
  • salt as per taste

Instructions

For Momo
  1. Mix wheat and finger millet flours, curd, salt, water and make dough.
  2. Let the dough rest for around an hour.
  3. Roll this dough into thin circles of about 2-3 inches diameter.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add all the vegetables. Stir fry them on high flames. Do not overcook them. Add soya sauce, salt and black pepper.
  5. Place 1 tbsp of vegetable stuffng in the centre of the rolled dough.
  6. Lift one side of the edge and start pleating and join these pleats at the centre. Another way is to join both edges first and then join the ends. Steam this Momo in a steamer.
For Red Sauce
  1. Place tomatoes and dry red chillies in a saucepan.
  2. Add water, cover it and allow it to boil.
  3. As it starts boiling, remove the cover and allow it to boil for another 8-10 minutes till both the ingredients are soft.
  4. Pour this into a sieve.
  5. Allow the tomatoes to cool down. Remove peels from tomatoes and transfer them to a blender.
  6. Add dry red chillies to the tomatoes.
  7. Add salt and a bit of sugar.
  8. Blend to form a smooth paste.
  9. Serve the steamed Momo with this sauce.
