SRLC at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019 For the 9th year running, Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) continued its stellar participation at the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM), India’s largest philanthropic sporting event. The bright morning of 20th January saw over 1000 SRLC volunteers and supporters walk the streets of Mumbai for the 6km Dream Run. Commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi, SRLC’s theme was based on the iconic charkha, titled – ‘Spinning the Yarn of Love and Care’. Brought to life by a grand hand-made charkha, the innovative theme and attire won SRLC the ‘Jabong Run in Costume’ award. The SRLC Motivation Zone attracted throngs of Mumbaikars, with an array of live music and dances, including a special stomp performance by students from Shrimad Rajchandra Gurukul. Rural women from the Shrimad Rajchandra Mahila Gruha Udyog also participated in the marathon, spreading the message of women empowerment and self-sustainability. The TMM, which is Asia’s largest marathon, has become a prominent platform for NGOs to spread awareness and raise charity. This year, SRLC raised over Rs. 4.25 crores for the construction of the new Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital (SRH), a 250-bed multi-specialty charity hospital for the less privileged in Dharampur. SRLC had the support of 33 corporate teams, the highest amongst any NGO. SRLC’s youth fund-raiser Meera Mehta was selected as Inspirational Change Agent of TMM, along with Indian Olympic medallist MC Mary Kom and IPS Officer Shri Krishna Prakash. Starting off at the age of 12, Meera has raised close to Rs. 1 crore over her 8-year journey! Meera also shared her experience of being a fundraiser at the pre-event Charity Press Conference.
