In a historic first for the region, Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital and Research Centre facilitated its maiden organ donation.
On the night of 13th May, Atulbhai Gamit, a 40-year-old resident of Mahuvas village, Vansda Taluka, was admitted to the Emergency Department in critical condition. A CT scan confirmed severe cerebral haemorrhage, and despite immediate intervention by the ICU team, he was declared brain dead as per the established medical and legal protocol.
In a profound act of compassion, Atulbhai’s family consented to full organ donation. Within the critical preservation window, hospital teams coordinated the retrieval and transport of all donated organs: the heart was carried via Green Corridor to Daman Airport and then airlifted to Ahmedabad, while both kidneys were dispatched by ambulance to the Kidney Institute, Ahmedabad.
Three patients have received new life thanks to this act of kindness. The hospital honoured Atulbhai’s selfless act with a formal Guard of Honour and extended its deepest gratitude to his family.
