Immediate Humanitarian Response to the Maharashtra Floods

The state of Maharashtra witnessed extremely heavy rainfall on two days in July which led to a catastrophic situation in several parts of the state, affecting lives and livelihoods. The most affected regions were the districts of Kolhapur, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Satara and Sindhudurg with more than 1,020 villages being impacted in these districts. Several people had to be evacuated, only to find their homes and belongings devastated by the surging flood waters upon return.

Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, in collaboration with the Gems and Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF), responded immediately to this situation by providing relief material to around 1,200 families in affected villages of Mahad and Poladpur of the Raigad district. Volunteers distributed ration kits consisting of rice, pulses, salt, sugar, palm oil, tea and spices. In addition to this, utensils and bed sheets were also provided to the affected families
