Pujya Gurudevshri was recently invited by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Religions Initiative India (URI) to speak at an online symposium titled ‘The Inclusive Edge’, aimed at exploring how the faith dimension can help accelerate environmental sustainability.

UNEP is the leading authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The online symposium featured several prominent saints and spiritual leaders from India, such as Pujya Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Pujyashri Radhanath Swami, Brahma Kumari Sister Shivani, The Rt. Rev. Reuben Mark, Haji Syed Salman Chishty and Dr Rajwant Singh. The session was also attended by Ms. Joyce Msuya – Deputy Executive Director, UNEP and was moderated by Indian model, actress, producer, social worker Dia Mirza, who is also National Goodwill Ambassador for UNEP India.

Representing Pujya Gurudevshri, Atmarpit Nemiji, Personal Secretary to Pujya Gurudevshri and Trustee of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur, spoke about how sustainability is woven in the infrastructure planning of Shrimad Rajchandra Ashram Dharampur. He also emphasised that in the Mission and all its activities, the environment has always been a non-negotiable part of decision making. The culture of compassion is deeply embedded in the seeekers and thus manifests in different ways in the various projects undertaken by the Mission. Concluding his inspiring address Atmarpit Nemiji reinforced that sustainable development can be brought about on the strong bedrock of faith and an ever-expanding culture of Ahimsa where caring for nature actually becomes one’s own nature.

Atmarpit Nemiji had also given an address on behalf of Pujya Gurudevshri on the occasion of the online launch of UNEP in India on 5th June 2020, World Environment Day.
