Columbian-style Arepas

Let us relish a Columbian-style dish

Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn kernels makkai daana
  • 1⁄2 cup vegetable stock or water
  • 1 cup corn flour makkai aata
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp hung curd
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1⁄2 cup grated cottage cheese paneer
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  • 1. Make a puree of vegetable stock or water and corn kernels in a mixer.
  • 2. Combine corn flour, sugar, hung curd, 1 tbsp oil in a bowl to make the batter for Arepas. Flatten and mix well.
  • 3. Add corn puree, cottage cheese and salt to the batter and mix.
  • 4. Pour 2 tbsp of oil in a griddle pan and rub some oil on your palms as well.
  • 5. Take 1 tbsp of batter and mould it into 1⁄4 inch thick and 3 inch broad Arepas. You can make 10-12 Arepas with this batter.
  • 6. Place them gently on the pan. Grill for 5-6 minutes on low flame, till they turn brown on both sides.
  • 7. Serve this sizzling hot Columbian-style Arepas with hung curd or salsa sauce.
